For 2015 I wanted to generate a list of Travel Blogs to follow, that inspire me. This is not a list of friends or bloggers I want to notice me. I’m getting nothing in return for this, and the bloggers featured won’t know they are featured until the post goes live. I just want a list of pure inspiration, each and every one of these blogs has inspired Intrepid Escape in some way, and made it what it is today. And for that I want to give something back.

The Whole World is a Playground

A blog started by Elaine and boyfriend turned husband, David. When they met they were both already well travelled, so with this passion in common they started the blog together on their year out travelling the world. The Whole World is a Playground has being going from strength to strength with a Cosmo Blog Award nomination last year, and recently nominated for the UK Blog Awards for 2015! However its after I met Elaine and David in Athens in October 2014 that inspired me to read their blog, and include them in this list. You cannot come across a more friendly, genuine couple passionate about travel, and with dedicated sections on the blog for Running and Photography, they’re a blog to watch in 2015.

Ben Southall

The original ‘Best Jobs in the World’ winner, Ben Southall is from Petersfield only 10 minutes away from my hometown in Hampshire, England. Ben hit my radar in 2009 after winning the dream job of Island Caretaker in Australia, a competition I would later be a finalist for when they ran a repeat in 2012, as Wildlife Caretaker in South Australia (won by Greg Snell – also a great blog!). Since then Ben has taken every opportunity to be a true adventurer! He completed the Best Expedition in the World, a four month kayak over 1600km, and broke the world record for the fastest ascent of each of the tallest mountains across the 8 states & territories of Australia! In November 2014 set another World Record completing New Zealand’s 9 great walks (545km) in 9 days, plus he’s run 15 marathons and has just written his first book! Convinced?

If not then it’s actually his next adventure that excites me most, in February Ben and Sophee (Ben’s wife) will start a 10 month overland expedition from Singapore to London! Ben and Sophee will drive Ben’s Land Rover Defender ‘Colonel Mustard’ through Asia, the Middle East and Europe on a venture to find people who are truly happy in their jobs. You can follow this amazing road trip on Facebook, and keep up to date on the website Best Life in the World.

You can buy Ben’s book ‘The Best Job in the World: how to make a living from following your dreams’ at Amazon

Miss Barlow

Lizzy from Miss Barlow recently started a Travel, Food & Lifestyle blog. She had visited 22 countries by the age of 22 and hasn’t stopped there. Her adventures have taken her all around Europe, Australia, Asia, South America, North America & the Caribbean. Lizzy is also a qualified Wedding Planner, keen cyclist and has lifeguarded in California! But the reason I’ve included her on this list is she has one of the most unique and inspiring writing styles out there, Miss Barlow knows how to tell a story and captivate readers from start to finish. This is a talent a lot of blogs are missing, just check out her Easter Island or Amsterdam posts.

Sunday Fundayz

Sunday Fundayz or High on Life, is the story of four guys from Canada who messed around with YouTube videos, went travelling, made more videos, did some more travelling, started a clothing line and hosted parties in the States! Intrigued? That summary does it no justice whatsoever, so be sure to read the ‘about me’ section on their website. It was their YouTube channel that caught my attention, there’s a massive selection of ‘Top 10 things to do…’ videos and the one below, 3 years of travel in 3 minutes which currently has 875k views!

The Legendary Adventures of Anna

Anna from The Legendary Adventures of Anna has been travelling for over 4 years and has built up a very engaged following across all social media channels. The main reason? People buy people! Every one of Anna’s Facebook posts show a brilliantly shot, stunning photo of a happy go lucky girl living every day to its max! Who wouldn’t be inspired by that? And on top of this when I first started out in blogging Anna was one of the first people to reach out and help me try to win a dream travel competition, which I am very grateful for (although unfortunately I didn’t win!).

Charli and Ben from Wanderlusters are Adventurous Nomads who left their ‘life less ordinary’ in the UK in 2010. Since I started Intrepid Escape I’ve looked at Wanderlusters for inspiration, whether its blog design, types of post or photography, they have all the boxes ticked. They’ve also been featured by some of the biggest names in the business, such as Lonely Planet, Expedia, National Geographic and The Huffington Post. Both are certified PADI divemasters and their scuba series is a great read, the photography is simply stunning!

One Step 4ward

Johnny Ward from One Step 4ward is on a mission to visit every country in the world, and has currently been to 131/193 countries so far! Originally from Galway, Ireland Johnny has lived in Australia, Thailand and Africa, and dreams of never working for anyone but himself. If that’s not inspiration enough he has a Motivation Monday’s series offering advice ranging from ‘Making money online’ and ‘Time management’. But my personal favourite is the Rant feature, where Johnny says it exactly as it is. Recently ranting about sweating when travelling, flip flops breaking and Asian ketchup – I can relate to all three!

Guerrilla Gallivanter

David from Guerrilla Gallivanter is a Canadian traveller with a degree in Political Science, but has been travelling for the last 5 years. I came across his blog recently when David wrote about Vietnam in Christmas Abroad: Part 1. I loved the passion to try new experiences, such as eating cobra, walking into Mexico’s worst barrio or vomiting blood in the Philippines! David also speaks 4 languages and has a storytelling approach to blogging that gives me the vibe he’d be a good (albeit dangerous) person to travel with.

Y Travel Blog

When it comes to Family Travel look no further than Y Travel Blog. Caz and Craig are Aussie travel addicts who have lived in 5 countries, their passion for travel comes across in everything they do on their blog. As you can probably tell their travel didn’t stop after children, both their girls had an international holiday before they were 6 months old! And they will literally show you how, with tips for family travel, meeting people, saving money and their brilliant 12 Steps to Travel.

You Bloody Tourist

Anthony from You Bloody Tourist is (or was) a broke student originally from Essex (England) squeezing as much travel in as possible, vowing to try to leave the country at least once a month. Its a “blog for me to express my self-importance”, and the name of the blog came from a “fat drunk Australian” shouting at him! It was an impressive 2014 though, visiting 9 countries, graduating University and volunteering in the UK. Its not a blog for the feint hearted, and if you don’t like swearing please don’t follow this blog! However if you like someone giving a brutal honest opinion, then take a look.

Photo: You Bloody Tourist

Which blog have you read that truly inspired you to travel? What is it about the blog you like? I’d love to see your recommendations for Travel Blogs to follow in the comments below, as there are so many more great blogs out there I’m yet to discover…
